Explaining 9/11 to a 6 year old

Throughout MY day today I thought about 9/11 but it wasn't until this evening that I really re-visited that day. Anna and I were sitting on the couch and she asked me if I new about that "Bad thing that happened a long time ago, on this day?" She said, "You know Mom." I said yes I know but what do you know Anna. I needed to hear her story before I gave her to many details. She went on to say, that Mrs. Bekel (her first grade teacher) shared with her class that today is a very sad day for some people, and that a long time ago some bad people hurt alot of other people and they died. I confirmed what she shared with me and went on to explain a little more in detail. I told Anna, that 7 years ago today, some very bad men that don't believe in our God got on an airplane and took that airplane into two very tall towers and the towers fell to the ground hurting alot of people, and a lot of people died. Anna became very concerned, I went on to tell her that these were very bad people that didn't believe in our God, and that if they did they wouldn't have done this. She wanted to know where she was when this happened, I told her that I was pregnant with her. She understood but wanted to know how old I was, I told her it was seven years ago, so she did the math and asked if I was 31 and I told her I was. She then asked me that if those men would have believed in Jesus how would he not allow them to do something so bad. I told her that with the love of Jesus in your heart you do good things, that he is good and those men didn't know Jesus in their hearts. I also told her that we need to prey for people that don't know Jesus. She was content with our conversation, and after she went to sleep tonight I reflected on our conversation. I realized that as a parent I want to protect my children from so much, but I also want to be honest with them. Hiding things and keeping them in a bubble does not allow them to grow and learn. Anna is such a smart little girl, she continues to amaze me and I just love every little thing about her! In closing I want to ask that if you are reading this to take a minute to remember those indiviudals that lost their lives seven years ago.

Not only did I think about the folks who are so seriously wounded by the 9/11 attack, I spent a lot of time praying for them. I am also praying that Anna's generation will know and seek God and become true servants to people all over the world. This generation, Anna's and Jude's, are the ones to change this world and create peace in their own hearts, their homes, and their world! love you Amy You are such a good, kind and devoted mom.
